Reviews and Ratings

Alan Dunne rated this wine as 90/100
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A lovely assemblage of Négrette, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Aromas of currant, plum, and oaky spice. Full bodied, lots of fruit on the palate, backed by some medium tannins. Great value for the price. Enjoy with grilled steak.
Greg Hughes rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

You don't see Fronton too often. This particular producer makes a wide range of wines with the varietal. This one is their mainstay; an entry level example with Fronton's star Negrette grape making up 55% of the blend. 45 percent genrally changes vintage by vintage and is usually a mixture of Syrah and Bordelais grapes in support.
This vintage tends to be a bit spicy and overpowering than previous ones. Negrette's plum amd date character takes a slight backseat to Syrah-like pepperiness.
It is tasty, however. Give this wine a decant and place it alongside some korean short ribs.
From Fronton in the Midi wine region, Château Bellevue La Forêt 2016 is a great value, full-bodied red from the southwest of France. The wine is a well-crafted blend of 55% Négrette, 20% Syrah, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. The Négrette wine grape appeared in the 12th century and was named "Mavro" (black) originally brought in from Cyprus by the Knights of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. Grapes are vinified separately and aged in large oak vats two years prior to bottling. On the nose, the wine is bright red fruit, ripe black currants and blackberry, licorice, green pepper and smoke with a lingering savoury spice finish. Hold in cellar for three years or enjoy now with a roast duck or mature cheeses. This vintage was awarded Gold in the Paris Agricultural Competition and Silver in the 2016 International Wine Challenge. - Community Wine Reviews
