Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

People who like Foch, love it and people who are not enamoured with the grape simply don’t. However, whatever side of the Foch fence you are on, you really need to try Celista Estate Winery’s Oak Barrel Foch Reserve 2018. This is a fantastic Marechal Foch; deep, dark ruby in the glass, smooth, spicy and masterfully-crafted from 18 year old vines. Fragrant on the nose with dark cherry, ripe blackberry and espresso coffee aromas, the wine is dry, full-bodied and harmonious with dark cherry, smoky dark fruit, espresso coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla and pepper spice flavours with ultra-balanced acidity. The grape does have a reputation for having quite a bit of acidity that can be difficult to manage, but Celista gets it smack on. Tannins are chalky and fine. Enjoy with bison burgers, grilled steaks or dark chocolate studded with dried blackberry and cherry fruit. We paired it with a venison meat fondue. Tasted October 2020.

Aged 12 months in American and French Oak barrels. This vintage was awarded Gold in the 2020 All Canadian Wine Competition.
