From the Tejo wine region, Cabeça de Toiro Reserva 2017 is excellent value at $18. A blend of Syrah, Castelão and Touriga Nacional aged nine months in French oak barrels. The wine is dry, medium-plus-bodied and zesty on the palate with ripe dark fruits, savoury herbs, dried sweet tobacco and toasty oak spice flavours. Tannins are firm. Produced by Winemaker, João Vicêncio.

Food pairings: bison burgers, tourtière, ribs.

Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

The Cabeca de Toiro 2017 is a delicious Portuguese wine made by Quinta S. Joao Batista. A blend of 34% Syrah, 33% Castelão and 33% Touriga Nacional delivers aromas of black raspberry, blackberry, black pepper, leather, allspice, espresso and sweet tobacco. Medium body, with well balanced tannins and acidity, the wine offers a fruit-forward finish, perfect for any occasion. Palate: ripe cherry, strawberry, lavender, leather, spice, clove and cigar box. Enjoy!
