From the Catalunya D.O., San Alejandro Evodia 2019 is a 100% Garnacha and amazing value at $15. Juicy and bright with luxurious liquid red cherry, dark berry, violets and dark spicy flavours smooth and long on the palate. An excellent value Spanish red. Drink or hold.

Garnacha food pairings: grilled bavette steak, sausage casserole, grilled chicken breasts.

Reviews and Ratings

Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This single varietal Garnacha from Northeastern Spain is not shy. It is an extrovert, showcasing pronounced and pleasing aromatic waves of fresh floral, dark cherry and berry jam, cooking spice and cedar. Its delicious flavours are reminiscent of ripe dark berries and cherries contrasted with light touches of savoury spice.

Harvested from 2400 -300 feet above sea level vineyards in Spain’s Calatayud appellation, this red feels full bodied, extra dry, and modest in the tannin department.

For me, this wine’s aroma + flavour + feel experience far exceeds its price point ($14.95 at the LCBO in April 2022). I’ll serve this with hearty dishes such as casseroles and stews.
