Price: $14.95

Drink: 2012-2017

Bottle size: 750 ml

Alcohol: 13.6%

Sweetness: Extra Dry

Wine Type: Red Wine

Winery: Bodega del Abad

Agent: Tradesa Corp.

Natalie's Score: 90/100

Lovely mature flavours of tanned leather, violets and cigar box. Not fruity. Love this lots more than "younger" Crianzas. Somewhat like mature Rioja without the markup. The Bierzo region of Spain has recently reinvested itself and emerged as a modern producer of a very traditional grape, Mencia. This wine finished with black, mocha and spice. Try it with light curry dishes.

Food pairings: lamb, curry dishes.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Dark berries, big taste with all sorts going on. This is an aged wine that shows no sign of fatigue. Lively, youthful, and full of ageing potential. Wow! Stock up on this, enjoy now, and let some age for years to come. 91 points. Tasted March 2015. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Great value! A medium+ bodied mature Crianza with notes of dark fruit, sweet baking spices, leather, tobacco leaf, and a lift of violets. On the palate there's a smooth toast and caramel characteristics with long Skor bar finish. Loved it! Has more ageing potential. This is a buy a case wine.
Pair with Paella, roasted lamb, grilled meats.
Tasted: April 2015
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

An aromatic nose with spicy red berry, leather and herbal notes. The palate gives herbal notes, ripe cherries, vanilla, sweet tobacco and leather. Dry with a long dark berry finish. Great value.
This spectacular Spanisj red wine was matured in both French and American oak barrels. Full-bodied and best enjoyed with hearty meat dishes. - Community Wine Reviews
