From Valpantena in the Veneto wine region, Bertani 2015 is a dark, rich and savoury Amarone Della Valpolicella with layers of cherry liqueur, cacao wrapped up in a light smoke. This wine was produced in Valpantena, the only cru denomination in the Valpolicella region. "Valpantena," the name for the hillsides where this wine was grown, means "valley of the gods." Pour with mature cheeses.

Amarone Della Valpolicella food pairings: dark chocolate, blue cheeses, venison, beef daube, pasta with tomato sauce.

Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This is a great wine, albeit very young. This wine comes from the hillsides of Valpantena, an historic valley first utilized by ancient Romans who valued the land's versatility for agricultural development. The Bertani family have deep roots here, and their headquarters to this day remains in Grezzana.
The soils for this wine were calcareous marl, splotched with iron (which gives fortitude). This valley also has massive temperature swings compared to the surroundong area. That means the wines have a lot more freshness and ageability.
Rich and inviting aromas and a deep ruby colour. Licorice, droed flower, minerality, and smoke. Cherry, plum, and black currant.
The flavpurs are delicious. Savoury and fresh for a wine so big, it's got lots of complexity. It os firm amd not showing all of the character it will eventually have. These are early days.
Judging by the pedigree and the taste now, it is a great wine and a good price for an Amarone.
Roast duck or something slightly exotic would match this wine's panoply of delicious fruit and spice. It only gets better from here. This keeps a decade; no problem.
Rebecca Meir-Liebman - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Growing on the hillsides known as Valpantena – valley of the gods in Italian – this wine is a blend of Corvina, Veronese, and Rondinella. It’s full-bodied, rich, and intense with soft tannins, notes of cooked red fruit, wood, and earthiness. It can easily age for another 20 years, but it is also ready to be savoured right now. Lovely with braised meats, cheeses, and charcuterie.

This lush red is a blend of 80% Corvina Veronese and 20% Rondinella, hand-harvested and dried for four months before being made into wine. The wine is then matured in oak for up to 30 months. Pour with mature cheeses. - Community Wine Reviews
