Reviews and Ratings

James Belardo rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Apothic Winery's namesake red wine is a well rounded blend of California grown French grapes that consists of Zinfandel, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Savignon varieties. The wine-maker has stated on their website that they were inspired by, "Apotheca, a mysterious place where wine was blended and stored in 13th century Europe."

The wine-maker seems to be going for a smooth and intense wine that's slightly syrupy, with hints of dark berries and chocolate. I believe they've achieved exactly what they were after, unfortunately it's also a nondescript wine lacking individuality and character.

Overall this is a great wine for casual wine lovers, and while it's not particularly unique, I would gladly drink this while catching up with old friends.

Sona Shea rated this wine as 70/100 with the following review:

I tried Apothic Red 2012 from California this Friday...Halloween! I looked forward to a night of trick-or-treaters then cuddling up & watching a romantic film (I don't do scary...not even on Halloween)...But...I only had one little Batman at my door and before I had a chance to set up Love Actually, "extended club" (I'll explain that another time) showed up at my house. It was a fun filled, silly night, turns out just what I needed! The Apothic Red was a good wine, full bodied & smooth but a little too fruity for my taste. I would like to try it again though with a meal.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
