A savoury, juicy, lip-smacking delicious Spanish red wine with incredible depths of concentrated dark fruit flavour. Think fleshy black plum and blackberries with some cedar smoke and savoury bacon notes. So, so tasty. Pair with roast beef.

Reviews and Ratings

Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Dark purple with delicious smoky plum and Cassis aromas punctuated with blueberry, eucalyptus, and dried herbs. The taste is plum and raspberry with high acidity and a long, tart finish. I paired this with a medium rare beef tenderloin to great effect, and it even went well with kale salad with ginger balsamic dressing.
This Spanish red wine is produced by Bodegas Alto Moncayo, a winery established in 2001 as a partnership between importers Jorge OrdoƱez, and Dan Phillips, and Australian winemaker Chris Ringland. The estate is situated near the village of Borja, and boasts 210 acres of vines that are head-pruned. The old vines Grenache are planted at 3,000 feet above sea level in slate, clay, chalk and quartzite soils. The 2012 Veraton is made from 100% Grenache grapes. The wine is matured in 60% new French oak barrels and 40% American oak barrels for 16 months before bottling without filtration. - Community Wine Reviews
