Adam Bekhor rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

The 2008 Anakena Single Vineyard Carmenère is big brooding unripe monster of a wine with flavours of green pepper, tobacco, tar, white pepper, cloves, and a lot of green vegetal notes. The only fruit that I could pick out was a slight hint of black currant on the finish. Not exactly a “fruit-forward” wine. To top it all off, this wine is super tannic and literally feels like mud in your mouth. Maybe this is your cup of tea, but it’s certainly not mine! Before you completely dismiss this wine, remember it’s what you like that counts! If the flavours I mentioned in my review resonate with what you like, please go pick up a bottle. Lord knows my palette should never be considered the end all to be all of good taste.

Natalie's Review

Anakena Single Vineyard C , A.F. Arco Iris Armenère 2008, Rapel Valley, Chile: Vintages Wine Panel: To further emphasize that their wines are distinctively Chilean, Anakena uses specific ancestral petroglyphs and engravings to cement the wines’ connection with history and the land. This single-vineyard Carmenère carries the image of the Condor, called the king of the skies; very appropriate for Chile’s flagship variety. Dry, medium-full bodied with red berry fruit, mint and earth notes and a lingering finish. Smooth and versatile. My note: A terrific, full-bodied sipper with simple, straight-up tasty pleasure. Loaded with dark fruit and smooth. Perfect party wine. Drink: 2011-2013. 59519 13.50% XD 750 mL  $13.95 Score: 87/100. June 25, 2011 Best Value Red Wine. Smart Buy Wine  Full Review
