Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This is an amazing Syrah from Blue Grouse Estate Winery. Quill 2019 Syrah is elegant, vibrant, and just a mouthful of vibrant dark cherry, dark berry, coffee, cocoa flavours with well-integrated toasty oak spice looooong and mouth-watering on the palate.

Grapes for this vintage were sourced from the Oliver wine region in the Okanagan Valley. The vines thrive in Parkhill soils that are sandy loam formed from fluvioglacial deposits. Grapes were fermented 10 days in temperature-controlled tanks with complete malo conversion and ageing in French and American oak barrels for 12 months. Pour with a slow-braised beef brisket. Tasted October 2021.

Re-tasted December 2022: If anything, this wine has become more refined and velvety on the palate with well-defined flavours of liquid black cherry, mulberry, cocoa, subtle black pepper and well-integrated oak spice. Acidity is balanced and still very fresh. Produced from 100% Syrah and beginning to show its very best now.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
