Simon Chen rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Tasted @ New Zealand Pure Discovery Walk-around Tasting in Ottawa - Luna Estate is my overall best winery of the event. I rated all three pinots above 90 pts. This entry pinot has a very pure strawberry raspberry fruits on the front palate. Good grip and silky tannin on the mid palate. However, the finish is a bit short. Their wines are not available in Canada yet but I hope they will hit the market soon!
Brent Gushowaty rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

The fruit profile on the nose here is an interesting and different one, showing sappy, pin cherry, and pomegranate seed notes with a good acidity. Blended with this are some darker fruit notes including blueberrry and Oregon grape, perhaps from 828 clone? The palate falls more on the darker, weighty fruit side underpinned by a coordinating acidity. Well balanced, the finish is above medium with a slightly confected grape note at the end. Still rather simple overall but very pleasing. C+ ~ 88

The grapes use here are from both of the estate's Blue Rock and Eclipse vineyards. The wine was matured for 12 months in French oak (10%) new, with a focus on lower toast levels.

Martinborough sits near the southern tip of the North Island of New Zealand across the Cook Strait from the better known Marlborough wine region, located at the northern tip of the South Island. Martinborough accounts for just 3 percent of the total New Zealand wine production but is home to 9 percent of its winemakers. As a result there are many more smaller acreage wineries in the Martinborough area vs. Marlborough. The yields here are also generally lower than elsewhere in New Zealand.
Melanie Lloyd rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A light to medium bodied easy-drinking Pinot Noir with aromas of juicy cherry and strawberry with violet and a touch of vanilla. Smooth and tart on the palate with sour cherry flavours. Perfect with salmon.

Tasted at the Pure Discovery New Zealand Wine event in Ottawa May 2019.

Natalie's Review

Luna Estate Pinot Noir 2016, Martinborough, New Zealand: Lovely Pinot made from "younger" vines that are 10-20 years old (that's not really young, and that's good ... deeper concentration). Lovely spicy cherry and savoury depth. Pair with veal chops. Drink: 2019-2024. 12.50% XD 750 mL  $26.95 Score: 90/100. May 14, 2019 Top Rated Red Wine.  Full Review
