Melanie Lloyd rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This ruby coloured Red made from the Italian native grape Nero di Troia is very fragrant on the nose. It has juicy aromas of sour cherry and plum as well as floral notes of violet and rose. In addition, there is chocolate, cedar, leather, cloves, and cinnamon.

The tart fruit follows through on the palate as well as dark chocolate and sweet spice. It is a fuller bodied wine with moderate but well integrated tannins. The acidity is quite lively and there’s a long smoky finish. This one could benefit from several years in the cellar. If you wish to enjoy now, make sure to decant it first.

Tasted January 2019

WINE-FOOD PAIRING: This wine pairs well with roasted red meat or with sharp Italian cheese. I also tried it with a piece of dark chocolate and it was tasty.
Wineboy rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Cranberry, leather and iron aromas with a nice replay. Solid structure therefore either age me 3-5 or serve with a food or cheese with an element of fat (ie. rarer steak, hard cheese)

Natalie's Review

Rivera Il Falcone Riserva Castel Del Monte 2012, Puglia D.O.C., Italy: Rivera Il Falcone Riserva Castel Del Monte 2012 is a robust 85% Nero di Troia and 15% Montepulciano wine blend from grapes sourced in the Puglia wine region. Fruit is bright with fresh mulberry, blueberry and fresh sagey herbs and tanned leather on this dry medium-plus-bodied red. Decant for one hour and enjoy now with a meaty pasta dish or cellar for five years. Drink: 2018-2025. 177295 13.50% XD 750 mL  $26.95 Score: 91/100. May 6, 2019 Top Rated Red Wine.
