Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

A gorgeously layered perfectly integrated fruit forward Pinot Noir from South Africa’s, Hamilton Russel Vineyards. Refined and silky with red cherry, forest floor and earthy truffles. Flavours echo - with mouthwatering raspberry, pomegranate and fresh herbs. Hints of sweet smoke and cinnamon spices following through softy throughout with every sip and lingering with elegance into the finish. Acidity is vibrant with silky, soft tannins. Dry and decadent (2g/L) A very nice accompaniment with truffle Brie and a get together. You won’t be able to help enjoy this. Cheers! 93 points

Natalie's Review

Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir 2017, Hemel-En-Aarde Valley, Walker Bay W.O., South Africa: I love this wine year after year, and I'd rather be drinking it than writing about it so I'll let the previous note stand. Breathing this in is like walking into an opium den for wine lovers. Satin pillows of fleshy black cherry invite you to lie back, close your eyes and let your senses roam. Surely one of South Africa's finest Pinot Noir producers! Hamilton-Russell leads the way in the country for cool-climate viticulture and racy, exciting wines. Sophisticated and complex, but extremely easy to drink. Lavish fleshy ripe cherry aromas and flavours yet not simple or sweet. Complex, elegant and layered South African Pinot Noir from a master producer. Some dark spice on the finish. Silk texture. Chapter three of my second book (Unquenchable) includes a visit to this winery and dinner with the brilliant Anthony Hamilton Russell. This is easy to mistake for a top shelf Burgundian Pinot. Pair with your holiday dinners, especially those featuring roast turkey or chicken. Drink: 2018-2024. 999516 13.50% XD 750 mL  $58.95 Score: 95/100. July 7, 2018 Top Rated Red Wine. There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
