Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Aromas of black fruit and oak with black cherry, raspberry, herb and some black tea notes on the palate. Finishes with soft tannins.
Jon Steeves rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The Velvet Devil had me at hello in 2013 and 2015 produced a great wine, and a step up in my opinion. The 2015 vintage of Washington State cold climate Merlot, showing deeply opaque ruby. This wine offers graphite minerality, cassis, blueberry, strawberry, savoury. The vineyard professes terroir to bottle in the Land to Hand and Vineyard to Bottle expression. Recommend as a crowd pleaser, great for celebrating. Pairs well with BBQ baby back ribs, a rare BBQ rib steak or blue cheese filet mignon. Enjoy now. Tasted 2015 vintage August 2017. 90 points. Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
