This wine is primarily Cabernet Franc blended with Merlot fro the clay and limestone gravel soils of Saint-Emilion. Medium bodied, lots of cassis, spice and smoke on the nose and a bit of spicy pepper coming through on the palate. Very well integrated flavours, and nice balance of fruit, spice and smoke mingled with medium tannin. Pair with braised beef short ribs and enjoy.

A Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, this wine has aromas of cassis, plums, violets, sweet herbs, cedar, and white pepper. Medium-light mouthfeel, soft tannins, good structure, with a long finish tasting of minty red fruits. A pleasure to drink. Score 90. (S.Segard, reviewed April 2017)

One of my favourites from the Dourthe tasting, this Grand Cru from western St. Émilion is a medium-full bodied blend made up mainly of merlot, with some cab franc. The aromas are cherry, violet, tobacco, spice, smoke, all of which also translate onto the palate, with well-integrated tannins and moderate acidity.

Dark and brooding, earthy, violet, tobacco, cocoa powder, leather notes spill out amongst the plummy and dark berry flavours - nice and complex and interesting. Velvety, unobtrusive tannins carry the finish. Quite a delight! Perhaps try it with grilled, dry-rubbed flank steak.

In the eastern Saint-Emilion region of Bordeaux, the Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Fegeac is a notable Grand Cru. Acquired in 2005, this Château is known for producing very delicate and elegant wines, and has become a real showpiece for the Dourthe empire. With its berry and plum aromas, you'll want to smell this one all day. This particular Bordeaux is meant to be enjoyed while it (and you!) are still young. Enjoy now, or cellar for 5 more years.

An elegant blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cab Franc, made from grapes grown in France's Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux A.C. The delicate nose shows blackberry and floral violet aromas, repeated on a fresh, fruity palate that is reminiscent of the famous violet bonbons made at L'Abbaye de Flavigny. Mouth-watering acidity, satiny texture and integrated tannins lead to a polished finish. Enjoy now or cellar up to 2025.

People have a tendency to avoid Bordeaux on vintages that aren't a 10/10. This is a mistake. There is so much variety and character in Bordeaux and the real treasures are when winemakers challenge your precognitions about the wines you think you know.
This wine is all about their Cabernet Franc and how it plays with Merlot. All the wine is aged in barrel, but with lots of old oak to keep it subtle and suave.
Medium deep ruby in the glass.
Extremely compelling florality. Lavender, pot pourri, damsons, craisin, cigar box, cracked pepper.
Fresh and full flavoured. It's got a lot of cigar leaf, pepper, leather, charcoal, cassis, dried cranberry, and saturated blueberry confection. Great acidity too. It's super well balanced.
Drink this classic Bordeaux with bison burgers, or prosciutto.

Fruit comes forward in this expressive Bordeaux wine from Saint-Emilion. Cherry and plum aromas with notes of violet, sweet tobacco and soft spice rounding out the experience. Primarily Merlot grapes with Cabernet Franc to contribute to the wines overall structure. Robust and elegant. Pair with beef bourguignon. Tasted April 2017

Deeply coloured, its expressive boquet shows layers of dark fruits, plum, mint, charcoal smoke, and baking spices. The texture and structure of this wine are outstanding. Cabernet Franc provides the wine's solid structure which is then filled with elegant and expressive Merlot giving the wine both strength and finesse. Enjoy this wine 2017-2025. Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac 2011, Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux A.C., France: Although the 2011 vintage was a challenging one in Bordeaux, this producer succeeds. Aromas of wild violets, dark fruit and smoke on the nose and palate of this well-structured Bordeaux red wine blend. The vines are planted in deep, long soils of clay and limestone close to the vineyards of Chateau Cheval Blanc. The district is known as "Graves de Saint-Emilion" or Saint-Emilion stones. Great delicacy, complexity and length on the finish. While this is mostly Merlot, there is also about 30% Cabernet Franc grapes in the blend. cellar it for a few more years for maximum pleasure then decant 1 hour.
