This traditional method sparkler is showing aromas fragrant orchard apples, lemon and lime while the palate is clean and crisp with playful persistent bubbles and a pleasant acidity. The toasty notes linger, lovely.

This wine is a good buy every year. Traditionally made Chenin Blanc from Vouvray, near Tours. Balzac was particularly fond of this winery. Check out Moncontour's Cuvee Predilection to taste the style he prefered among all others.
This one is a touch more autolytic and less piercing than their wines with zero dosage. This one is softer, with a rounder mouthfeel. Though Chenin has suuuuper high acidity levels, this one is balanced, fresh, tasty.
Medium lemon colouration. Good, persistent bubbles.
Aromas of lemon cake, honey, lanolin, apple, apricot, and quince.
Fantastic clover honey, brown butter, lemon rind, assorted citrus, apple, and pear.
Chenin can stand the test of time, so even though this is non vintage and enjoyable now, don't feel nervous about stocking up on good sparkling when you can. Pair this delight with quiche lorraine.
Stephen Andrews reviewed this wine as follows:
I serve this wine as an aperitif before dinner with a hard smoked cheese. Very easy to drink. A nice introduction to sparkling wine. Light lemon lime citrus. It is very nice in the summer when it is well chilled. Good value. Also good in the winter as a starter wine before the main course. I like the bright golden colour and freshness of flavour.

I am always on the lookout for a nice, different sparkling wine and this one did not disappoint! Made in the traditional method with Chenin Blanc. Aromas of lemon, pear and apple and a hint of brioche. Nice acidity and fine perlage. I will be on the lookout for more of this sparkling to stock in my cellar!

Chateau Moncontour Tete de Cuvée Brut Vouvray Sparkling, Loire A.C., France: The French writer Honoré de Balzac featured this winery in his novel, La Femme de Trente Ans. What a bargain for such a crisp, toasty bubbly! Lovely bright green fruit and lemon lift on the finish. A toasty, nutty French sparkling wine from the Loire Valley. These bubblies are rare finds, and this one represents tremendous value. Perfect as an aperitif or companion to seafood and great novels. Drink: 2016-2020. 207936 12% D 750 mL $19.95 Score: 90/100.
