Gabbiano Chianti Classico 2011 is a good valued wine for under $20. Medium to full bodied red wine that has nice dark cherry, spice and slight smokiness. (89/100)

A very impressive value-priced Chianti Classico. Deep and concentrated, with great black fruit, rose, tar, anise and bell pepper on the nose and palate. I recently tasted this wine blind with four other Chianti Classico wines and this was at the top of my, and the other Sommeliers I tasted with, list. Tasted February 2016. 89 points. Although it wasn't my favourite wine in the flight it was true to Tuscany! Acidity that Attacks and keeps the mouth watering with vibrant acid, ripe tannins, however I found it lacked fruit on the nose and through the mid palate, which will probably turn around with a good 20 minutes to wake up. Like all Chianti's people it requires food to truly enjoy

Pizza wine! This is a great valued Chianti Classico that is very easy to drink, with approachable tannins. Lots of ripe cherry and baking spices on the nose. With bursts of sour cherry and herbs coming through on the finish.

Smoke, leather and fresh ripe cherries on the nose. Lip smacking acidity with matching dry tannins and lots of fruit make this a well balanced Chianti. Medium to long finish. This is a good value wine that would pair with pasta, pizza or herb crusted lamb.

A well-balance wine from the Chianti Classico region just outside of Florence. Made entirely with the Sangiovese grape, that is notoriously difficult to grow but food friendly and flexible. There are typical notes of ripe cherries, spice and savoury herbs with medium acidity, ripe tannins, medium finish. Excellent value and should be a staple with Italian fare.

A mild fruity nose with ripe cherries and plums and hint of baking spices. A medium-bodied palate gives ripe plums, cherries, vanilla, herbal touches and oak. Well-balanced with medium tannins and good acidity making this very food-friendly. Long plummy finish.

Fairly complex nose of dark cherry, cassis, fig, sage, tobacco, violet, cedar, and olive. The flavours show the same pleasing balance of fruit and savoury notes. This wine has a medium-full body, with medium-high acidity and tannins to match. Very elegant. Dark fruit and tobacco linger on the finish. Excellent value. Tasted blind, Feb. 2016.

The 2013 Gabbiano Chianti Classico shows moderate aromas from cherry, raspberry, ripe plum and sweet smoke. Its is light bodied with a grippy mouthfeel (young tannins) and medium-long tart cherry finish. The predominant flavours include tart cherry, cranberry and earthy minerality. Pair with stews and braised beef. Tasted Jan 2016.

A light red strong on the leather…
Presentation: Classic but with a caricatured knight in a crest, which gives it a twist
Appearance: Light ruby
Nose: Leather, anise
Taste: Leather.
Finish: Leather lingers.
Overall impression: It seems watered down. It’s a little underwhelming for a Chianti Classico. Pair with Italian food that is not too strong.

Light and bright, aromas of bright cherry and a bit of a smoky note. Nice acidity on the palate, cherry and some spice come through with some nice tannin. Perfect with a variety of classic Italian flavours, but nice with a nice bolognese.

Aromas of violets, baking spices, and vanilla. Some of the floral aspect comes through in the taste as well as bright berry notes, especially raspberry and strawberry. Grippy tannins that will stand a little ageing or decanting. A perfect wine for tomato based dishes.
