A robust and full bodied Australian Shiraz - Cabernet Sauvignon blend declared at 14% ABV. Semi tart blackberry fruit dominant aromatics with oak presence. Medium tannins, medium acidity and a lip smacking burst to its mouthfeel. Pair with burgers or braised ribs. Tasted Jan 2017. Rated 87/100.

Ripe berry, sweetened tobacco and eucalyptus hit the high notes on this one. The palate is smooth with nice acidity and long off-dry jammy berry and mint finish. Inky purple to core. Nose of jammy black fruit, clove, milk chocolate and some flint. In the mouth it is a big fruit brute alright. Lots of chocolate covered cherries, sweet black plums and cloves. The finish is 30 plus seconds and should balance with decanting or 1 year in the bottle. Pair with BBQ! Lots of smokey sauce and grilled red meats would do the trick nicely. Drink 1 to 4 years.

Deep purple in colour. Heady fragrance of ripe, grapey fruit with sweet spice and milk chocolate notes. Bright acidity lifts the palate nicely, balancing the ripe, concentrated fruit and full body. The texture is velvetty smooth and the tannins are soft. This would be a great one to pair with barbecued ribs in a tangy sweet sauce. Serve slightly chilled.

Blackberry and plum aromas with dark flavors of chocolate, oak and hints of graphite. The flavors were well blended. The tannins were a bit grippy and tight but a good decant before serving should soften it up.

An energetic red. Dark ruby red in color. Blackberry, plum, and eucalyptus aromas. And, a spicey mouthful of black fruit.
This a full flavoured wine, which should be opened well in advance of your meal -- say at the same time as you light up your old fashion charcoal briquettes to prepare those thick juicy steaks you intend to serve with it.

This could just as easily have been called "Big Brute"! This is a red with big aromas, flavours, finish and with 14% alcohol packs a punch. An opaque wine that you smell before you even put your nose to the glass; jammy dark fruit, some oak and leather. Plenty of fruit but with enough and acidity and smooth tannins to give it some complexity. A great value wine to go with juicy ribs slathered in sauce! Tasted May 31, 2016

Deeply intense garnet is the colour of this Young Brute. He smells of ripe red cherries, dried figs and toasted unsweetened coconut. Brute is dry, yet fruity and full-bodied with some sucker punch tannins that sneak up on you. He follows through the bout with a long, and glorious ripe cherry knockout. Excellent quality to value ratio.
Pair this wine with meat lasagna, or with medium rare grilled steak and roasted potatoes.

Dark black fruit, earthiness, smoke, and some baking spices give this a rich, deep aroma. The taste is rich, smooth blackberry, plum, and a touch of chocolate, with medium+ acidity and medium well rounded tannins. Basically, this is a big, rich, smooth wine with enough acidity to carry it off perfectly. Great for beef stew.

And a Brute it is! This is a handsome bottle of Aussie red wine blending Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark and brooding with gobs of concentrated black fruit, leather, toasted oak, vanilla and cake spices. Some tertiary pencil shavings, tobacco leaf and chocolate. Good acid to fruit ratio and good value for the complexity. This is a buy 2 wine.

Young Brute 2014, Wrattonbully, Australia: A juicy, robust, smooth Australian red wine blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes produced by the Casella family. Loaded with flavours of fleshy ripe purple and black plums, blueberries and toasty oak (but not too muck). Mouth-watering and mouth-filling: this wine packs a punch without being overpowering, which is quite remarkable for a young brute. A terrific regional expression of Wrattonbully which experience a windy but dry spring followed by a hot summer in 2014 for tremendous depth of ripening and flavour. A luscious finish with some eculypt and dark spice. Pair with a juicy steak or hamburgers. Drink: 2014-2017. 434654 14% D 750 mL $18.95 Score: 89/100. February 7, 2017 Best Value Red Wine.
