Malcolm Lamont rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

One of my favourite regions, often giving Châteauneuf-du-Pape-like wines for a great value.

This one by Lavau is no exception. Lifted intensity aromas of leather, red cherry, and mocha, with a smoky finish!

Very good concentration for $24.95

Alex & Priya rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Alex: 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre. The 2012 Lavau Vacqueyras is an exceptionally balanced, fine value example of this Rhone village. It falls deftly in between being lusciously ripe yet not too alcoholic, the latter is often my complaint of wines from here that hit our shelves. Classic aromas of plum pudding, dried herbs and melted licorice sprout from the glass with a faint depicture of fresh fig against a mineral backdrop. A succulent, juicy palate weaves plenty of savoury Syrah nuance through chunks of delicious Grenache fruit, a mineral coolness, crunchy acids and well-endowed depth for the coin. A top buy by, grew earthier over 3 days but held up well. Keep up to 10 more years. 91 pts

Priya: Wish I wrote the review on the night we opened this wine. Then it was luscious and fruit-juicy, smelled like a bushel of dark jammy berries. On night two it still had the memory of all that, but everything was a bit dull in comparison. My rating is based on night one. 87 pts

A bold and very ripe, deeply coloured and dark fruit scented Vacqueyras, sitting at the extreme edge of ripeness. The palate is full and rich, with high concentration and dense sweet dark fruit flavour. Wow, what a mouthful of wine, certainly equal to many southern Rhône reds at twice the price. Fans of massive, big-structured wines will revel in this, especially at the price. Tasted October 2015. Value Rating: ***

Natalie's Review

Lavau Vacqueyras 2012, Rhône A.C., France: This robust southern French red wine offers blackberry liqueur aromas and richness on the nose and palate, with a pleasant smoky finish. Full-bodied and layered with a terrific value for the price for this blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. In the early 1960s, the Lavau winemaking family left St-Émilion in Bordeaux and moved to the Rhône Valley. Brothers Benoit and Frédéric Lavau partner with 300 grape growers in the region to make their wines. Pair with prime rib. Drink: 2015-2018. 104927 14% D 750 mL  $26.95 Score: 91/100.
