Wonderful Syrah showing depth, intensity. Herbal notes with peppery ripe red berries. Tasted @vanwinefest 2017. Rated 91/100.

Dark Ruby. Aromas of cassis, oak, vanilla and smoked meat. Smoky palate as well and powerful (14.9% ABV) and well textured dominated by dark fruit and spice. Firm tannins and solid acidity. A full bodied wine with a long silky finish. Drink this to accompany braised beef with foie gras and black truffle sauce.

A Syrah that makes a statement! Dark berries, tobacco, and bacon with a persistent peppery finish. Excellent with creamy dishes, strong cheeses or lamb.

Painted Rock's Syrah is one of the finest in the Okanagan Valley, year to year. Deep ruby red in colour, is loaded with rich dark berries, roasted beets, sweet spice, black pepper, and savoury smoked meat notes. Full bodied, the palate is loaded with deep dark berries, black pepper, red pepper, and youthful tannins. Decant one hour prior to service and enjoy with charcoal grilled beef tenderloin. Tasted October 2015. 91+ points. Matt Steeves – www.quercusvino.ca

Intriguing grassy notes yet complex! It totally changes minute after minute in the glass!
Initial aromas include: pink grapefruit and cracked pepper with layers of black plum, cassis, mineral and slightly herbaceous notes (grass & basil) being the most pronounced. Flavours are equally round and complex - black plums, cassis, dark chocolate, baking spice (clove and anise) and a touch of cracked pepper on the finish (long). Tannins are medium (trending smooth), acidity is integrated and wine is full bodied with a long pithy grapefruit and herbaceous finish.

Huge nose of cracked black pepper, blueberry, vanilla, and great acidity are lingering in the background. fruits are very tightly wound in this, This wine could last a while in the cellar!

Complex, savoury, layered Syrah from BC, with highlights of blackberry, cedar, sage, mint and eucalyptus. A very complex nose, indeed. Not surprisingly, the mouth is rich with ripe dark fruit, cedar, and spice. Full-bodied and ready to tackle a braised beef on the smoker.
Sean O'Regan rated this wine as
91/100 with the following review:
Dark purple, intense and fragrant herbal nose of well, marijuana along with black fruit, pepper and toasty oak. Full bodied, plum, cherry, toasty oak and savory epper and sage notes. Well balanced, with lifted acidity and fine dusty tannins with a very long finish. The quality here is evident, and an extra point for the uniqueness of this very well crafted wine. Drink or hold short term and drink over the next 5+ years.
Tasted Oct 2015.
Heather Wall rated this wine as
87/100 with the following review:
Smokey, earthy, and might I dare say "weed." The palate is a little more herbal with a lift of mint and pepper The palate shows more of the juicy blackfruit and cake spices. Warming vanilla and black fruit finish. Pair nicely with roasted rack of lamb with mint sauce and rosemary. Some drying tannins and suggest decanting 1-2 hours.

For all the wine geeks out there, Painted Rock has a wonderful website that provides great detail about its wine. You can find out the PH balance, the Brix at harvest and even how much wine was produced.
The Syrah highlights aromas of black pepper, cherry, blackberry, black and red currant with spices and vanilla notes.
Cherry comes through on the palate as well as the black pepper, spices and vanilla.
Lingering acidity finishing with cherry and spices.
Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as

The nose offers pepper, black cherry and a hint of floral bouquet. The pepper really comes out on the palate along with a slightly sweet mixture of black cherry and red current.

Painted Rock Estate Winery Syrah 2013, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia BC V.Q.A., Canada: Spectacular BC Syrah with savoury herbs, cedar brush, fresh earth, wild dark berries and spice. Wowsers! Stay with me here, but this wine also smells like marijuana ina seductively complex way. Canabis actually has a complex array of aromas from its terpines: you'll get rosemary, black pepper and others that are also the basis for essential oils. It's definitely there on the nose of this wine and I love it. Pair this with more Syrah ... or perhaps an announcement from our new prime minister on legalization. Which one? Let's hope the new government is also liberal enough to allow Canadians to buy wines grown and made outside their province. Surely that can't be as provocative as the other new law they're considering. Raise a toast to common sense. Drink: 2018-2023. 541540 14.90% D 750 mL $40.00 Score: 93/100.
