If you happen to have a bottle of this in your cellar, consider yourself one of the lucky ones! Sensual aromas of ripe plum, dark cherry, baking spices and black pepper would never have you believe this wine is 15% abv. The long growing season in Marlborough allows the grapes to develop in to a concentration of bright fruit with a long finish.

A stunning Marlborough Pinot Noir. The Icon Pinot from storied Nobilo winery, shows just how interesting NZ Pinot can be. Medium ruby red, immediately I was impressed with the deep colour for a cool climate Pinot. The nose shows toasty smoke, little field berries, pepper, gamey notes, leather, beetroot, and a touch of dried herbs. Palate shows more smoke, berries, and spice. Absolutely delicious! A very unique Pinot that’s clearly in a league of its own. Tasted August 2015. 92 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca

If you happened to have cellared one of these bottles, you're in for a treat. After some ageing this is a very tasty wine. The aromas are very rich and balanced and include raspberry, strawberry, and earth as well as touches of sweet baking spices, flint, and black pepper. The taste is round and smooth, but with a bright acidity. There just a touch of very rounded tannins. The finish is long and mainly raspberry and dried cranberry.

Medium ruby red; well extracted colour. Sweet fragrances led by black cherries, plums, soft toasty notes and mocha. Rich flavours build upon the nasal hints of chocolate cherries. The wine is luscious and well-constructed with acids and tannins providing a perfectly balanced backbone. A lengthy finish keeps the party going. Drinking well on its own at 5 years and will continue to age nicely. Perfect for duck with cherries and pork tenderloin with a cranberry glaze.

Deep, dark red, nice and chewy, bold yet smooth Pinot. More blackberry/black currant than cherry with hints of leather, chocolate and vanilla spice - delicious! Share with good friends... if you like!

Deep ruby with dark cherry, raspberry, toasty oak, sweet baking spice and leather.
Intense berry, cherry fruit and spice with good extraction and concentration. Medium full body, nice balance of fruit, acidity and resolved tannins, although the alcohol comes through on a long warming finish. Paired with lamb at Nobilo winemaker lunch - tasted Aug 2015

Honestly, one of the most incredible NZ Pinot's I ever tasted. This wine blew me away! Deep garnet red (sexy actually) appearance, dried cherries and cranberries with lovely baking spice notes (especially nutmeg). The alcohol does seem to have a presence but don't let that hold you back. For its price, its a steal! Well integrated acidity and little to no tannins, full bodied, and a lovely long dried berry finish. Pair with game (particularly cooked sous-vide).

This Pinot Noir has aged very well. It has a deep ruby hue and a complex nose of dark berries, pepper and spices, a smoky cigar box, and alcohol (this isn't surprising for a wine that has 15% alc and was aged on a medium grain French oak for approximately 9 months). The taste is just as delicious: dark cherries, leather, dark chocolate, and mild licorice. It is silky smooth, well balanced and extra dry. A special treat that deserves to be savoured on its own.

The Marlborough climate lends itself to producing excellent Pinot Noir wines. The nose on this 2010 vintage shows some flintiness along with mild cherry aromas. The palate presents sour red cherry, earth and forest floor elements, baking spices, dark chocolate and slightly gamey notes. Good acidity and a spicy cherry finish, with dark chocolate coming through at the very end.

In 1936, Nikola and Zuva Nobilo moved to New Zealand from Croatia to escape the impending war. They left everything behind except a few important things, one of them was a 300 year old winemaking tradition.
They faced many hurdles trying to put these years of experience to work, mainly because there was no wine culture in New Zealand at the time, add to that was the lack of equipment needed to set up a vineyard. Undeterred, Nikola persevered, built his own tools and in 1943, the couple planted some of the first commercial vines in Huapai, west of Auckland on New Zealand’s North Island.
By the 1970s, Nikola had established himself as a successful winemaker who also helped transform New Zealand’s wine industry by shifting from hybrid grapes to Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
To this day, Nobilo continues to craft delicious wines of distinct regional character from their many vineyards in Marlborough, Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
The fruit for this flagship Icon wine was sourced from vineyards in the Waihopai Valley, one of Marlborough’s sub-regions.
In the glass, it is a rustic red color.
There is a beautiful oakiness on the nose along with currants, a little caramel and a touch of soya sauce.
Dry and ample on the palate with stewed black plums, cacao and some spice. Acidity and tannins are in good harmony. Finish lingers…
Great wine for teriyaki salmon on the bbq!!!
