Impressive developing little wine. Cooked red fruit aromas with sweet baking spices and vanilla are the most dominant. The flavours are pleasantly rounded. Key notes include: cooked dark berry fruit, vanilla, leather and spice. This wine has balanced acidity and tannins (slightly grippy) with noticeable alcohol, medium (+) body and a long fruit finish. Pair with fall game roasts!

Yummy! A great value priced GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre) blend from the sunny south of France. Plum, fig, and dried fruit on the nose and palate, the wine is rich and well structured with refreshing acidity and big tannins that will complement just about any hearty dish you can imagine. Priya: Smells like roasted rice tea - a pleasant, homey smell! Lil' bit o' pepper as well, very deep garnet color. More tannic than his premier cote, and leaves caraway seed on the finish. Nice and full, peppery fruity goodness! 82 pts

Alex: Yes, this has indeed more tannin and mineral backbone, more serious than the standard cotes du rhone and less jubilant and easy-drinking. To me, this tremedously finer for the additional $3 (!!) difference in price, but perhaps most may find it a little rougher and less desirable... berry bowl nose coupled with wet stone and black licorice, with a backdrop of dried thyme...the nose could pass for the much more expensive Chateauneuf-du-Pape! The palate is quite deep and suave, old vines definitely apparent, very balanced weight and great spice throughout. 60/40 Grenache Syrah makeup, this is an outstanding drop and an absolute steal at $18.95. 91 pts

This blend made from 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah is a real expression of the Cotes Du Rhone terroir. La Ferme Du Mont Le Ponnant 2012 made by Stephane Vedeau, a third generation winemaker, is a full bodied wine that reveals the strength and potency of these grapes that are beautifully blended to create this Cotes Du Rhone's signature.
Visual examination: Crystal clear, ruby red, consistent with many narrow arches surrounding the glass revealing a high presence of alcohol.
Olfactory examination: Intense, complex, very fine quality wine, La Ferme Du Mont Le Ponnant 2012 reveals fruity notes of plums, strawberry jam, pomegranate and blackberry that combine elegantly with black pepper and coffee nuances.
Taste-olfactory examination: dry, warm with 14% abv but smooth this wine, as all Vedeau's wines is beautifully balanced by a good acidity. The tannins are still strong making this wine better if is tasted in the next three to five years. Balanced, intense and persistent aftertaste, La Ferme Du Mont Le Ponnant 2012 is a fine quality wine, ready to drink but still with more potential if kept in the cellar. Try with grilled lamb. 88 points, but could be more in a couple of years.

So what would it take for Stéphane Vedeau, the owner and winemaker at ‘La Ferme Du Mont’ in the Southern part of Les Côtes du Rhône to even be interested in purchasing a piece of land to add to his vineyard collection? In his words, he is “terroir-attracted” and looks for fresh minerality in the soil.
Not only do you find that fresh minerality in the wines that he carefully crafts but you also taste the land and that natural harmonious balance that he skillfully maintains through the winemaking process. His wines are all organic products, free of chemicals and pesticides, the fertilizers are organic in nature and he even uses ambient or natural yeasts to ferment the wines.
This 2012 Côtes du Rhône Villages is a blend of at least 60% Grenache with Syrah making up the difference with a little Mourvèdre.
In the glass, it is a deep ruby, almost opaque in the center with very good legs!
The wine “feels” hot as it enters your nostrils! Lots of ripe red fruit & bramble berries, toasted oak, spice and dark cocoa.
Dry with a delicious tannin/acidity balance. Bramble berry pie filling, slow cooked blueberry jam and spicy notes.
Great food wine for your BBQ parties! Try it with an Indian spice rubbed roasted chicken!
