Brent Gushowaty rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Eye:
Medium depth with ruby rim.

Nose:
Red berry fruit with some pepper, plums.

Palate:
As on nose, berry fruit with some pepper notes, medium body and intensity with restrained tannins and acidity. Excellent balance. Not showing a lot in terms of complexity as it likely will in the future but very well structured and graceful syrah versus massive forward fresh fruit flavours of many Australian Shiraz examples. Should develop further over the next 15+ years.

Date Tasted: May 28, 2015

Alex & Priya rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Priya: Not sure how to describe the smells I detect here - maybe a bit smokey like fruit that's been smoked as opposed to meats? Tannins coat the mouth - I don't like that part. 82 pts.

Alex: I didn't think you would Priya, this wine is a bit too old school for most tastes, however for me it's the finest high-end shiraz of the show. Finally, one that doesn't rely on masses of overripe fruit and new oak...this is very elegant, loaded with spice and savoury olivine/dried herbs elements, and red fruits!! Strawberries and raspberries abound! Very savoury, graceful and spicy palate, layered and complex throughout. The alcohol is by far the most restrained here, and thus we have a lovely, harmonious wine that also doesn't rely as heavily on acidification as its peers. $250 price tag aside, if I had a premium cellar this would be my Aussie selection from the show. 93 pts (sorry Priya, I must overrule your score on this one!)
Mymi Thesingingsommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Tahbilk is owned by the Purbrick family and has a very colorful history that started in 1925 when savvy business man Reginald bought the property sight unseen planning to uproot the vines and sub-divide into dairy farms. His plans changed when he was convinced by his son in rehabilitating the winery instead. And as they say, the rest is history!
The winery is located in the Nagambie Lakes region of Central Victoria.
The Purbrick’s have five generations of family ownership and are the oldest family owned winery in the State of Victoria.
Tahbilk's '1860 Vines' Shiraz is produced from a 1/2 hectare un-grafted, pre-phylloxera (a root louse that sucks sap from grapevines, reducing their productivity and eventually killing them. This pest’s infamous claim to fame is the devastation of European vineyards in the late 1800’s) original Estate planting - amongst the oldest Shiraz vines in the world.
Since its inaugural release in 1979 this piece of liquid history has become one of the most sought after and collectable wines throughout the world.
In the glass, it is a light ruby red with a multitude of legs.
The nose is intensely complex with aromas of forest flor, spice, ripe blackberries, dried rosemary, toasted oak and cacao powder.
The palate is elegant, refined and superbly complex. Dry with ripe dark berry, plum, dark chocolate, a little tobacco and some savory notes. Velvety tannins meet refreshing acidity!
Make this wine the center of attention if you are going to enjoy it with food… I would simply have it with the darkest chocolate mousse!
Dianne Fisher rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Shiraz harvested from 150+year old vines. Aged in new oak; this wine is gamey with notes of black olive and fleshy dark fruits.
