Brent Gushowaty rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Eye:
Medium depth with garnet rim.

Nose:
Intense blackcurrant, cigar box, cedar and tobacco.

Palate:
As on nose, projected blackcurrant, tobacco leaf, and cedar notes. Excellent balancing acidity, softening tannins let the complex fresh and savory fruit flavours shine through. Great balance and structure that is built to last. Will certainly develop further 5-10 + years.

Value Rating: 86

Date Tasted: May 28, 2015

Mymi Thesingingsommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

The Wakefield journey started in the 1950s when the South Australian Wine Distributors company was formed.
Motivated by the great ‘old world winemakers, and in particular Chateau Mouton Rothschild, the Taylor family behind Wakefield set out to find the perfect piece of land in Australia to establish a vineyard in the family name.
They finally found the perfect piece of land in 1969, a 178 hectare site by the Wakefield river in the Clare Valley. With certain terra rossa soil (red brown loam over limestone) proving conducive to crafting wines of great quality, the journey began!
And why the seahorse logo? During excavation of the vineyard dam, fossilized remains of tiny seahorses were found in the limestone bedrock, confirming that the land had once been the bed of an ancient inland sea so it seemed only natural for the seahorse to represent their wines!
This Cabernet Sauvignon hails entirely from the finest blocks of the St Andrews vineyard along with some old vine material from the Wakefield block of the Auburn estate. It is named in honour of Bill Taylor Snr. Taylors founder and visionary, The Visionary is only produced in extremely limited volumes from exceptional vintages.
In the glass, it is a midnight ruby red color with an almost opaque center. Voluptous legs caress the inside of the glass.
On the nose, it exudes aromas of cassis, dark chocolate, currants, cherries, vanilla and ripe green bell peppers.
Luscious palate with a great deal of elegance. Dry but full of lovely ripe red fruit, eucalyptus, cacao, blackberries, a little almond paste and ripe juicy beets. Even at that age, it retains chewy tannins but they are met with vibrant acidity… Amazing fruity, smoky and tobacco-y finish!
Wow! Just spectacular!
To enjoy with a juicy striploin steak dinner!
