Year after year, a classic, and this vintage doesn't disappoint. Robust nose of dark cherry, cedar and a touch of leather. The palate gives way to a hint of vanilla and the full array of dark berries. Great acidity and soft tannins. A very food friendly wine.

Dark ruby red. Plenty of cherry and violets with a hint of tobacco and mushrooms. Full bodied, medium firm tannins and medium high acidity provides a nicely balanced wine with flavours reflecting the nose. A long finish and plenty of character. Serve with a wild boar or rabbit ragout over pasta.

A fine ambassador for Chianti Classico! This is "the wine that introduced us to Italian wine" after all! Ruffino was, if the absolute first, one the first few wines from to be exported to the North American market.
The key aromas and flavours include dried fruit (cranberry, fig), baking spices and an earthy smokey note. Tannins are light, acidity is medium plus but well integrated with the tannins, and wine is medium bodied. This wine a notch up from the "Tuesday night sipper" and would pair well a many great Sunday roast or tomato based stews.
Tania Thomas rated this wine as
91/100 with the following review:
This is an elegant and complex blend of 80% Sangiovese with 20% Merlot % Cab Sauvignon hailing from the Chianti Classico region in the heart of Tuscany. Plush and smooth with well-balanced acidity and velvety tannins. Abundance of ripe black cherries and a whiff of cigar box. Closes in a lingering, smoke-tinged finish.

Chiantis are known to be exceptional food friendly wines and this one is just that. Lots of interesting ripe red cherry notes with high acid and medium tannins. Would go perfectly with rich pasta dishes.

Not only did I enjoy tasting this wine I loved the story behind it. Ducale means "Duke" in Italian and is in honour of the Duke of Aosta who liked the Ruffino wines so much he appointed them the official supplier to the Italian Royal Family. Sweet cherry, leather, a hint of vanilla this Sangiovese has some great acidity that make it a perfect match for tomato based dishes.

Rich, flavourful aromas of ripe fruit, cherries, cedar and spice. A great pasta or pizza wine, would really complement a fresh spicy tomato sauce with sausage.

Medium ruby with dusty cherry, berry and spice. Medium bodied, with cherry, red berry fruit and gently spice, good acidity and fine drying tannins. Drink over the next 2-3 years with veal parmigiana and linguini with tomato sauce. Feb 1, 2015

Plum, tart cherry and a light touch of eucalyptus and violet give this a very pretty bouquet. Nice acidity, fine tannins, and light fruitiness showing tart cherry and plum make this an excellent with for pasta dishes with light tomato sauce.

Offers nice cherry and plum flavors with a good acidic balance.

Mild aromas of ripe red plums on the nose. Palate shows bright red plums, vanilla, good acidity and soft tannins. Super accompaniment to Italian salumni or pasta in tomato sauces.
