Lynn van der Linde rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Black cherries, smoked cedar, black pepper, and a hint of vanilla provide an enticing aroma, with balanced acidity and tannins, and a lingering spicy finish. Pair with meat sauce pasta or lamb.
Tasted March 2017.
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This is a lovely blend of Cab Sauv, Cab Franc and Merlot. Plenty of dark fruit, blackberries, black cherry and some smoke on the nose. Plush fruit with a smooth mouthfeel, soft tannins and medium acidity. Long fruit finish. Pull out next time you have company and are having steaks (or Portobello mushrooms for your vegetarian neighbour) on the bbq. Tasted March 13, 2017.

Nicely evolved at this stage, this has turned succulent and savoury, with a classic range of red and black berry fruit mixed with pleasant herbal spice. Tannins are still lightly grippy but shaping up nicely. Nice stuff. Tasted November 2016. Value Rating: ***
Dan Trcka Wine Blogger rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The 2012 Château des Charmes ‘Old Vines’ Cabernet/Merlot, made with both Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon as well as Merlot and aged in French Oak for 9 months; has expressive aromas of toasted oak, smoke, prune, plum and light vanilla in the glass and toasted oak, vanilla and dates-red-currant-black-cherry trio in the mouth. It is a medium bodied, extra-dry, fruity wine; with crisp acidity, dusty tannins and a long finish. It is made well to be compatible with food or simply enjoyed on its own; though it would benefit from further cellaring for a year or two (evolution potential +1), it is ready to drink now and will be to 2018/20 (cork enclosure). My impression: NICE to BEAUTIFUL, 89 (+1 EP) pts – recommended for both, quality and value. Tasted in Nov/14.
