Predator Old Vine Zinfandel is a terrific example of the great wines being made by Predator Wines thanks in part to their Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing practices. Predator Wines proudly employs a full range of sustainable practices to produce their award wining wines, including using the mighty ladybug to keep vineyards safe from harmful aphids and mites.

2013 Predator is a deep ruby red with sweet and pronounced notes of blackberry, Bing cherries, black raspberry, fragrant clove, bacon, cedar and spice. Velvety smooth with smoky plum, raspberry, cherry, clove and spice on the long finish. Enjoy this stunning Zinfandel alongside smoked chicken wings with chipolte honey glaze, charcoal-grilled pork chops with homemade cherry BBQ sauce, so simply on its own - a great treat! An absolute must-try! Tasted October 2016. 91+ points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca

The 2013 vintage shows juicy, big and bold. Consistently this wine shows Smokey and bursting with flavour. A unique expression of Old Vjne California Zinfandel. Ideal for pairing with BBQ fare including cedar plank salmon and bourbon-based BBQ ribs. Offering dense aromatics of smoked cedar plank, plump red berries and blackberry. On the palate this vintage offers red and black berries, smoked oak, vanilla bean. Medium plus acidity, medium tannins. Smooth mouthfeel, luscious experience, ruby red colour with a cranberry hue. This wine is ready to enjoy. 14% ABV.

The typical dark juicy berries weren't as apparent as I expected on this delicious old vine Zin: maple smoked bacon, cinnamon and cloves with baked apple on the nose and of course ripe dark fruit, pepper and spices on the palate. With bold flavours and low tannins this Zinfandel would pair well with ribs or grilled pork chops...or enjoy it on its own!

Lodi Appelation of California is the home of great Zinfandel. This full-bodied luscious bottle of rich dark fruit hits all the iconic notes of California Zin. Deep ruby colour with aromas and flavours of black cherry, black plum, strawberry jam, bumbleberry pie, vanilla, pepper, smoke, tobacco, warm spices. The length is long on a smokey tannin finish. Nice refreshing acidity to cleanse the palate so you can dig in for another mouthful. This is one intense wine! Zinfandel is perfect with grilled meats but I say "Dessert please!"

Natalie's Review

Predator Old Vine Zinfandel 2013, Lodi, California, United States: Campfire smoke, hickory and toasty oak with black fruit on the nose. Full-bodied and smooth. Old vines really do show their age nicely in a wine with deep concentration of dark fruit flavours. Supple, mouth-filling and delicious. Which dish to pair with the Predator? I'm sure you can hunt down something in the kitchen. Drink: 2014-2018. 322957 15% D 750 mL  $26.90 Score: 90/100. December 6, 2014 Best Beef Wine  Full Review
