In my opinion this is one of the best New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc on the market. Fantastic aromas of passion fruit, gooseberries and lemon. Long refreshing finish makes you want move to New Zealand and drink this every day.

Heather Murray reviewed this wine as follows:

Steve Bird has literally flown there and made that in the course of his long winemaking career, here and abroad. This new release exudes plenty of flinty, wild sophistication and attractive salty acidity. Try it with anchovy and onion tart. Score - 4 Stars (out of 5). (cuisine.co.nz, Dec. 11, 2013)

Typically pungent, green/herbal/vegetal Kiwi sauvignon from a single vineyard in the Rapaura zone of the Wairau Valley in Marlborough. The palate is rather soft and gentle, relatively speaking, and the length above the mean. Solid flavour concentration all around. Tasted May 2013. Value Rating: **
Sara d'Amato (89)
A very intense, New Zealand style fresh with cut grass, lime zest and passion fruit. Wildly aromatic and features a generous array of flavours on the palate. Despite its intensity, the wine is not heavy or overbearing. Fans of this style will be charmed. Try with warmed goat cheese on a summery salad. Tasted May 2013.

Raised in the NZ wine industry and trained at Roseworthy in Australia, Steve Bird worked at Morton Estate then Thornbury before opening his own winery in is a very intense, shiny almost metallic/tinny sauvignon blanc from a cool but intense vintage. Expect very lifted green pepper, celery, guava aromas and flavours. It's slim, squeaky clean and intense, with a hint of sweetness. The length is excellent. Tasted June 2013.

This is a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Strong aromatic aromas of citrus and passionfruit lead to a crisp and vibrant palate with wonderful sweet herb influences. Layers of tropical fruit combine with the effects of barrel fermentation to create great intensity and persistence of flavour.

International Wine Cellar (87) September/October 2013
Pungent aromas of grapefruit pith, green pepper and dusty fresh herbs. Supple on entry, then a bit hard-edged in the middle, with a slight bitterness to the lemon and grapefruit flavors. Has some concentration for the vintage, though.

Natalie's Review

Bird Sauvignon Blanc 2013, Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand: Terrific lime-zestiness in this citrus-herbal inflected Sauvignon Blanc. Refreshing and zippy: classic New Zealand style. I'm so delighted that this wine is back on the shelves again as it's a benchmark for the Marlborough region. Top me up! Finishes with gooseberry and passionfruit. Liquid lovely.
