Neil Phillips rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A huge, robust wine from South Africa, reminiscent of some of the better Australian Shiraz in style.

Nose of cassis, black pepper, cedar, leather, burnt rhubarb, sage.

Flavours follow the nose, with mocha and spicy fruit compote. The peppery note is evident, as are herbs. Chewy tannins, this wine goes on for a long time and will be a delight with bloody red meats, or hearty stews. High alcohol, but fully integrated.

Will age likely 5 years.

Tasted June 2014.
Caryl Mostacho rated this wine as 95/100 with the following review:

Love the complex flavours in this wine. And has a very smooth mouth feel.

Not a coincidence it's called Chocolate Block as the flavours just go so well with dark chocolate and berries.

Delish!

Natalie's Review

The Chocolate Block Boekenhoutskloof Syrah Shiraz 2011, W.O., Franschhoek, Western Cape, South Africa: Savoury, complex and delicious: wow! Cassis, blackberry and cedar forest. Meaty and enticing, full-bodied wonderful with a concentrated weave of anise, cigar box, pepper and meaty notes. Extremely juicy and mouthwatering in a food-happy kind of way. Balanced and delicious: this is a terrific red to red if you're not familiar with South African wines, or even if you are. Highly recommended.
