John Szabo, MS

Here's a solid but very oaky Montagne St-Emilion, built for the long haul. It's obviously very ripe and quite concentrated, with balanced acidity and big, plush tannins, though for now it's totally cloaked in sweet oak flavour. Graphite and pencil lead minerality pull this back to the old world. This will definitely improve over 4-6 years, though will remain a modern, new world, oaky example, but a decent value for money in any case. Tasted October 2011. Value Rating: *1/2
Gabriel Israel rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Great value ($22) for this right-bank Bordeaux. It is yet another example that demonstrate that 2009 was an outstanding vintage and that you can produce terrific wines for an affordable price. It's full body, mostly Merlot based, smooth and round. Drink it now and in the next 3-8 years. Decant for an hour if you drnk it this year.

Natalie's Review

Château Faizeau Vieilles Vignes Meritage 2009, Ac Montagne St-Émilion, Bordeaux, France: Big, black and hulking and in special need of cellar time then decanting. Smoky, tarry with an underlay of black fruit, this Bordeaux is beautifully structured. Serve at an elegant dinner party, especially one involving your boss and the side agenda of a raise or promotion. Drink: 2013-2020. 191494 13% XD 750 mL  $27.00 Score: 92/100. The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
