Reviews and Ratings

L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Deep ruby coloured red wine , dry, medium bodied , with a pronounced aroma of juicy cherries and cassis, sweet spice, vanilla, and cedar. Well balanced and smooth, flavours in the mouth are cedar, spice, graphite, a bit of smoke, red fruit and vanilla. This wine paired well with the smoky sweet notes of roasted red pepper, brie, pear, caramelized onion and mushroom pizza
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Looking for a “great” red to pair this summer with bbq fare? This blend of Merlot, Syrah and Malbec from Wayne Gretzky Estates would be a delicious pairing. Bright ruby in colour with an aromatic nose; sweet bing cherry, spice, vanilla and smoke. On the palate ripe cherry and spice with smooth tannins. Nicely balanced acidity and fruit with a medium fruit finish. I paired with takeout bbq ribs for an outdoor meal on the deck! Great wine from the “Great One”! @gretzkyestates #No99 #30daysofVQA
Gwen Barton rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A “Great” Red indeed. Okanagan blend of Merlot, Syrah and Malbec. Medium-bodied, nicely structured with plenty of acidity and rounded tannins. Decent complexity with lots on the nose and in the mouth. Look for leather, coffee, cocoa, sweet spice and dark berry notes. Pair with short ribs and roasted mushrooms.
David Skinner rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Dark ruby with a purple rim. Plum, Black Cherry and currant with spice and hints of leather. Solid acidity and medium tannins that are balanced to allow the dark fruit to fully express themselves on the palate. A medium finish revealing more fruit character.

For a change of pace I paired this with some exquisite chocolates from Perth Chocolate.
Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Another great wine from the #greatone - This nicely packaged red from Wayne Gretzky Estates showcases the Okanagan beautifully blending Merlot, Syrah and Malbec. The flavors are plump and juicy - dark berries, coffee, leather and spice. This wine was a big hit with grilled burgers.
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

From the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia's Wayne Gretzky Estates. The Great Red is a ripe blend of Malbec, Petit Verdot and Syrah. On the nose, fragrant aromas of blueberry, black cherry and sweet smoky vanilla with flavours revealing blackcurrant, cherry, cedar leather baking spices. Medium bodied with firm tannins balanced acidity with vibrant fruit and a mid-length spicy finish. The Great Red is a Great value and a Great wine that would make an excellent pairing with barbecued smoked ribs, chilli and pepper steak. Enjoy!

Pairs wonderfully with grilled steak or pork.
This Red blend (Merlot, Malbec, Syrah) from the Okanagan Valley and Wayne Gretzky Estates boasts aromas of black cherries, pepper, black liquorice, cedar, and a hint of eucalyptus. Black cherry flavours carry through to a juicy finish. Medium bodied with round tannins.
Tasted May 2021.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Blended from Merlot, Syrah, and Malbec. Aromas of dark fruits, smoke and warm, woody spices. Full bodied, bold on the palate with bright, mouthwatering acidity, soft tannins, and rich, deep berry flavours. Slightly spicy on the finish with lots of smokiness. Enjoy with any BBQ meats.
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Made by The Great One No. 99, Wayne Gretzky’s winery, in the Okanagan Valley, The Great Red 2019 offers aromas of red plum, red currant, bay leaf, new leather, baking spice, coffee and cedar. The wine is medium-bodied, with balanced acidity and tannins, and shows a round and fruity finish. Palate: Red plum, red currant, violet, leather, incense and cedar. Enjoy.
