A lovely Ontario whisky with aromas of toffee, maple and vanilla spice. Rich and warming with a long finish.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Finished in barrels that previously held aging maple syrup. There are hints of maple syrup, pralines, caramel and honey on the nose. Smooth with hints of warm spice and a lengthy finish. Enjoy on the rocks or use in any typical whisky cocktail.
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

From the Wayne Gretzky Distillery this is a true Canadian Whisky, aged in style from casks that previously held maple syrup. Elegant aromas of creme caramel, ginger and honey with flavours of butterscotch, apricot and smoky, dried orange peel. A must-have sipper to accompany watching a hockey game, or to enjoy after coming in yourself off the ice! Cheers! - Tasted December 2020
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

The ultimate Canadian whisky, aged in barrels previously used for maple syrup. Sure enough, there’s a delicious whiff of maple sweetness on the nose. The mellow medium-bodied palate shows vanilla, honey, dried orange peel and warm baking spices. The maple sweetness is prominent on the lingering finish. Delightful! Enjoy in coffee or in cream cocktails. 91 pts.

Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

O Canada in a glass!
Finished in barrels formerly used to house maple syrup, it doesn’t get more patriotic than this whisky.
Enticing aromas of maple sugar cookies, candied pralines, and dried apricots swirl in the glass. Flavours of spiced orange linger on the palate.
Unlike hockey, no need to add ice - a true treat enjoyed neat!

Courtney Flood rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This whisky from Wayne Gretzky Estates Distillery was aged in old maple syrup casks imparted deeply warm, spiced notes of crème brûlée, vanilla bean, milk chocolate, clove, cinnamon and other baking spices. What can be more Canadian?

Also tried this in a little spin on an Irish coffee this morning - 1 oz of Wayne Gretzky Maple Cask Whiskey with a double shot of espresso, a drop of maple syrup and some fresh whipped cream.
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Finished in oak barrels previously filled with maple syrup that was aged for 4 months. The first nose finds delicious aromas of maple syrup and wood, similar to the aromas found at an old time sugar shack or outdoor events where they serve maple snow taffy on a stick. As the aromas open, there is rich butter tart aromas, the ones with little raisins, slight fig, and gentle cinnamon notes.
It is smooth on the palate, with maple and smoky flavours. Good on its own, but would also work well in a variety of cocktails.

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Arrive in style with a Whisky by The Great One, Wayne Gretzky. Finished with maple syrup barrels, the Maple Cask will amaze your friends and amateurs of whisky. No. 99’s Whiskey is in the flavor camp of rich and round, with aromas of burned caramel, vanilla, honey, spice, cinnamon and oak. Well integrated alcohol and mature, the Maple Cask delivers a medium length and flavors of maple, caramel, cooked apple, spice and oak. Enjoy!
Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This is an interesting product. The maple is subtle and really lets the base product speak for itself. I prefer the red cask finish because of its more classic features, but its flavour profile is very much featured here with the addition of maple and praline flavours. Where this becomes interesting is its endless possibilities within the cocktail realm, and with Christmas just around the corner one can see it shining brilliantly in mulled cider, a Smokey maple old fashion, or even something with a Smokey or salty sherry. 89 Points.
Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Pleasing, approachable and deliberately Canadian. This non-vintage whisky featured pronounced aromas of sweet maple, toffee, butter scotch and spice that announced a medium weight, mouth coating experience of smoked maple, butter scotch and subtle dried citrusy flavors. The lingering finish sings with spiciness.

This whisky from Wayne Gretzky Estates was oak influenced not oaked overwhelmed, showed campfire smoke not peat smoke. Overall, an enjoyable beverage. Mix up your next Old Fashioned with this maple cask whisky. Enjoy.
