Stunningly great value! So juicy and savoury, lip-smackingly delicious. Lusciously rich and velvet-textured with fleshy sweetly ripe black plums in this classic Chilean red wine. The wine is matured in both American and French barrels for 8 months. Mocha-chocolate finish. Pair with grilled chicken.

Carmenère food pairings: wine-braised beef, game, pork, turkey with heavy sauce.

Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Chilean red that packs a punch. This wine saw relatively little time in oak for all of the woodsy spice that jumps at you, but that is pretty typical of Carmenere. It saw only 8 months in a combo of French and American barrels.
Deep ruby, dark core.
Indian spices and barrel notes jump out at you. It's pretty wild and intense. Roses, violet, mint, tobacco, currant, cassis, blackberry, and prunes.
The palate is slightly hot, but maintains a fine balance. Lots of cocoa, charcoal, cassis, currant, dried herbs, and a long smokey finish.
Big, racy wine that grabs your attention. Great example of Carmenere. Put this guy with beef wellington or burgers that are pepper-crusted.
From the Maipo Valley in Chile, Viña Tarapacá Gran Reserva (2014) is a lush 93% Carmenère and 7% Syrah red wine blend. Elegant with velvety tannins, this is a well-priced Carmenère under $20. Drink now with veal Parmesan. - Community Wine Reviews
