Tania Thomas - CSW, WSET ADV rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review: This beautifully crafted 100% Chardonnay hails from the Elgui Valley in the north of Chile. With the Pacific Ocean only 25K away, the climate is moderate and perfectly suited for the varietal. Bursting with aromas and flavours of zesty citrus with papaya notes as a great surprise. Creamy, luxurious mouthfeel. Refreshing with crisp acidity due to partial malolactic fermentation and pronounced minerality. Great as an aperitif and perfectly paired with creamy seafood dishes. Tasted June 2017. Tania Thomas – www.runawaygrape.com
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: Made from hand-picked grapes grown in Chile's Elqui Valley, this is an elegant and distinctive Chardonnay. It shows fresh papaya, citrus, minerality and honey aromas. The well-balanced palate reflects ripe papaya with citrus in a full bodied, creamy mouthfeel with excellent acidity and a long fruity finish. This would be perfect with fish tartare, grilled shrimp or chicken. I enjoyed every sip of this distinctive chard! Look forward to finding it in the LCBO in Dec. 2017 Tasted June 2017
Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: The Elqui Valley is located 25 kms from the Pacific Ocean, in a region that is famous for its dried fruit productions, including figs and papaya. Some of the world’s biggest papaya growers are located in this Chilean valley. Interestingly enough, the aroma of papaya is ever present in this 2015 Chardonnay. A brilliant golden hue in the glass, tropical (papaya!) overtones, and hints of oak and vanilla, only used a slight malolactic fermentation and a small percentage of new oak was used during the vinification process, to allow the characteristics of the Chardonnay grape to really come through in the final product. Toasty flavours, a luxurious mouthfeel, with a crisp green apple zip mid-palate, and a persistent papaya finish. Pair with salmon on ginger dishes. 91 pts. Tasted June 2017.
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: A splendid chardonnay at a great price, brimming with ripe yellow apple and tropical fruit notes. Substantial weight and buttery, nutty (leesy), grapefruit, citrus and apple on the palate framed by great acidity and a persistent fruity-nutty finish. Fab. Winemaker Matias Cruzat likes to have this with salmon or trout.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: This wine has a beautiful balance of fruit and minerality. Lots of ripe apple, papaya and honeysuckle, with a stony mineral note on the lengthy finish. Bright acidity keep this wine crisp and a touch of oak and some lees aging add some creamy and nutty notes. This wine would be great with a range of food, from oysters to pasta in a creamy sauce, to a lemon and rosemary roasted chicken. Enjoy! This wine will be coming to LCBO in December 2017. (Tasted June 2017).
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: A lively fresh Chardonnay with baked apple, papaya, pineapple and flinty minerality notes. Oak influence is minimal preserving the fruit flavours and imparting only a buttery richness and elegance. It's medium-bodied and crisp with a vibrant acidity and a long mineral finish. This delicious Chardonnay is sourced from grapes grown in the Northern Maritime - Elqui Valley - Region of Chile, an area more renown for the production of Pisco. Vina San Pedro winemaker, Matias Cruzat shared that the grapes are hand-harvested each year and travel some 700+ kilometers to be vinified at the Vina San Pedro Curico facility. Quite the operation! Enjoy this scrumptious with creamy Thai green curry steamed mussels. Tasted Jun 2017 by @sommsosa | bespoketastings.ca
Gwen Barton rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Elegant Chardonnay from the Elqui Valley, Chili. Located only 25 km from the Ocean, these grapes have the protection of the Maritime influence, allowing for slow ripening process. The result is this unique, aromatic Chardonnay with papaya, honeysuckle and subtle oaky notes. Fresh and lively. Lasting citrus finish with hint of salinity. Pair with grilled salmon. Tasted: June 2017
