Slightly past peak maturity but still drinking well. The fruit has fallen away; what remains is acidity, dust and earthy notes. Think all bones, no flesh. Some tanned leather, cigar and dried tobacco leaves.

Reviews and Ratings

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

This wine is showing a lot of tertiary aromas already. Clean pronounced savoury aromas including: cedar, forest floor, leather, black fruit, ripe cherry, vanilla, mint and loads of pencil shavings. Acidity is high, tannins are moderate, alcohol is integrated and wine is medium (+) bodied. Key flavours include: cherry, cedar, earth, leather and long bitterness in the finish. I would recommend drinking this vintage within the next year as it is peaking already. Pair with braised beef.
Tasted, October 2015.
Jacky Blisson rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Lovely candied red berries, earth and spiced aromas on first approach. Upon aeration, the fruit quickly fades leaving leather and talcum notes. Smooth and rounded on attack, just a touch lean through the mid-palate with moderate, chalky tannins and a faint orange peel hint on the moderate length finish. Lacks the power and opulence of a truly fine Gran Reserva, and is a little past its prime. Still drinking nicely though for those who enjoy older, dry wines.
Produced by Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, the 2008 vintage of the Gran Reserva is made from 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano grapes hand harvested from the villages of Laguardia and Alva. Polished tannins and lots of acidity. This wine is aged for 24 months in French and American oak barrels. - Community Wine Reviews
