Savoury and meaty with dried herbs and bacon. Gorgeous depth and layering yet not heavy. Rolls around on the tongue and goes down slippery fast with a long finish. Pair with grilled meats.

Reviews and Ratings

Mary Anne van Gaal rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Grenache is a rare grape to be grown in New Zealand so I was very interested to sample this one from family owned Villa Maria. A medium ruby colour, it had pleasant aromas of ripe berries and spice. Flavours of cherry, licorice and leather round out the experience. This would go well with many foods but would be especially good with a roasted rack of lamb.
Colin McKone - Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Ruby in colour with aromas of plum, cassis, white pepper, raspberry and leather. This NZ grenache is medium bodied with white pepper and ripe red berry flavours. This will go well with grilled chicken or red meats.
Sharon Lécuyer rated this wine as 84/100 with the following review:

Earthy, chocolate raspberries on the nose. Tastes tickle the tongue with more raspberry and spice. Smooth, medium-bodied but high tannins. I'd serve this with spiced rum cake at Christmas.
Emilie Ryan rated this wine as 77/100 with the following review:

Presentation: Classy, elegant, nice presentation and colours, distinctive on the shelf
Appearance: Medium ruby colour
Nose: Medium intensity aromas red fruit (raspberries, cherries), black pepper
Taste: Dry, medium bodied, medium to high acidity, high, aggressive tannins, with dirt, leather, and red fruit (raspberries, cherries)
Finish: Medium finish with dirty, earth and red fruit notes
Overall impression: An acceptable Grenache, which needs strong, salty foods to mellow it out.
Value: 1.5/5
