Reviews and Ratings

Cherie Cole rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The warm 2015 vintage allowed the fruit to shine in this Syrah. Not a popular grape in New Zealand, but it found its home at Gimblett Gravels in Hawkes Bay. Blackberry, raspberry, cinnamon, black pepper and delicate floral with a full body and slightly grippy tannins. Pair with rare beef or aged cheddar. Tasted with winemaker Simon Fell, September 2017.
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Always interesting to sample wines that we don't normally associate with a particular area - like a Syrah from New Zealand, this one of course, though, from the famous Gimblettt Gravels, known for producing Bordeaux varietals, plus Syrah. Medium-bodied, dark berries, spice, velvety tannins and a fresh acidity make this great with foods of a beef stew nature.
Andrea Shapiro reviewed this wine as follows:

Despite it not being generally thought about or considered for this area, there is some very good Syrah being made in New Zealand. Deep inky ruby colour, opaque with a dark core. Medium tears with medium staining. Dark plum, blackberry, hint of pepper and roasted green jalapeno pepper, some herbal notes of oregano and cedar. Everything really pops with the flavours. Blackberry, ripe cherry, bay leaf, oregano, dried and fresh leafy herbs and a touch of pepper at the back echoing with juicy plums. Dry with pepper and herbal notes persisting.
This Syrah; a savoury, spicy and succulent sipper.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
