Black cherry liqueur on the nose with wild violets, followed by an expansive palate of the same. Very mouth-filling and robust. Beautifully balanced acidity for food. Long finish. Great price. Highly recommended.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Deep ruby and bursting with juicy black and red fruit, pepper, smoke, wet wool, earthy. In the mouth the wine is balanced with smooth tannins, fresh acidity, and a long fruit driven finish. Drink now or let it reward you over the next 5 years. Lots of fruit and acidity provide a bright future for this Southern Rhone wine. Blend: Grenache, Syrah,Mourvedre.
Pairing suggestions: hard cheeses, roasted lamb, good cuts of beef
Tasted: December 2014
Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

I love Vacqueras wines, and this one shows beautifully! Wet stone, dark berries, baking spices on the nose, carry through with spiciness and pepper on the palate. Noticeable tannins, and a long spicy finish make this a pairing with beef dishes.
Founded in 1781 in the northern Rhone Valley, the winery of Vidal-Fleury is the oldest continuously operating producer in the Rhone region. The 2012 vintage of the Vacqueyras is a blend of 50% Grenache, 45% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre grapes that were grown on the slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail in the southern Rhone Valley. The wine was aged for 18 months in both stainless steel tanks and foudres (large oak barrels). - Community Wine Reviews
