Reviews and Ratings

Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

This is full bodied Ripasso from a co-operative with 400 associated members cultivating grapes and olives in the Valpantena area near Verona.

Layers of aromas; oak, smoke, dark plums, a bit of leather and cigar. Big cigar box flavour (in a good way) with some vanilla and oak. Supple tannins and well balanced acidity with a long smokey finish. Tasted October 24, 2017
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Rich, ripe black cherry, damson plum, spice with a bit of smoke/charred note. Medium to full-bodied. Try with braised lamb shanks.
Valpantena (2014) is a smooth, juicy black cherry and raspberry Ripasso Valpolicella from the Veneto wine region. What a great price on this smoky red with mouthwatering acidity that is made to go with food. I see a spicy sausage casserole in its future. According to the winery, "Valpantena" means "Valley of the gods" in Greek. - Community Wine Reviews
