Pleasant but fading fast so drink now. Earth, dust, smoke and leather not fruit in this full-bodied, smooth Spanish red wine made from Tempranillo Graciano and Mazuelo grapes grown in the heart of the Rioja region. This wine was aged in French and American oak for 24 months. Pair with lamb.

Food pairings: roast chicken, roasted root vegetables, meaty stews.

Reviews and Ratings

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

A ruby coloured red with underwood aromas that include truffles, black olives, a touch of wet cedar and dried autumn leaves. On the palate, we have dark berries including blackberries as well as a certain earthy quality. The tannins are velvety and well incorporated with the vibrant acidity. There is a nice long cocoa finish and overall this wine is lovely.

Suggested wine-food pairing: Lamb or pork roast.

Tasted November 2017.
From Bodegas Benito Urbina, Urbina Reserva Especial (2001) is a deep-rub red 90% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano and 5 % Mazuelo blend. The 2001 Seleccion Especial was produced from organically grown wine grapes from 50 plus year old vines. The wine was aged 24 months in French and American oak. Drink now. - Community Wine Reviews
