Reviews and Ratings

Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Even after 6 years there is still plenty of fruit and tannins in this BIG Merlot from Upper Bench Winery and Creamery from Penticton, B.C. Only 154 cases were made - it would be interesting to know how many remain in circulation. If you have a bottle -consider yourself lucky as it's drinking beautifully now.

In 2015 Beppi Beppi Crosariol, wine writer for the Globe and Mail rated this wine at a 90 and I'm happy to report this still stands.

Lots of dark fruit; blackberry, black cherry, chocolate and spice on the nose. Flavours of ripe dark fruit; black plum, black currants and blackberries. Tannins are still very evident but polished. Overall an extremely well balanced Merlot hitting the mark on fruit, tannins and acidity.

Pair with your next steak on the bbq in the summer or a rich beef stew during the depths of winter! Tasted July 26, 2018.
After a slow wet start, 2012 delivered three warm and sunny months allowing the fruit in this ample vintage to shine through in this big, rich, bold Merlot.

This Merlot was hand picked from our neighbour’s vineyard, Four Shadows Vineyard, on the 7th and 19th of November, 2012, and at Drunken Dog Vineyard, also located on the Naramata Bench, on the 4th of November at an average of 3.63 tons per acre.
