Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Unsworth Vineyards 2017 Allegro is your crisp and zesty summer white. Made from hybrid white wine grapes: Savignette and Petit Milo, this white blend is clover honey, ripe apple and lemon curd on the nose. On the palate, this wine is dry, barely medium-bodied with white florals, crisp red apple, ripe peach, light pineapple flavours and finishing rich and long with lemon curd flavours on the palate. Great poise and balance on this Cowichan Valley white from Vancouver Island. Chill and have on its own or pair with a seared tuna steak.
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

What an unexpected surprise. This White from the Vancouver Island area is made from the hybrid varieties Sauvignette, which has Cab Sauv as one of its parents, and Petit Milo, a cross between Cab Sauv, Riparia and Amurensis. Fragrant on the nose with concentrated notes of peach, bruised apple, candied pineapple, florentins (without the chocolate), dried apricot, orange marmalade, honey, and petrol. It expresses a foxy quality that is found in certain types of hybrid varieties. It also conveys an opulent quality in both texture and on the nose which is reminiscent of ice wine.

Now this is not a sweet wine, it's more on the dry side, although there's an illusion of sweetness through the opulent concentrated flavours. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and has a lovely mouthfeel with tart, mouthwatering notes of Granny Smith apple, peach, delicate pink grapefruit, and honey.

Wine-Food Pairing: This one is pretty versatile. I enjoyed mine with a salty trail mix and it was tasty. I would definitely enjoy it with roasted ham.

Tasted March 2022.
