Juicy acidity with tanned leather aromas on the nose and palate of this rustic Italian red wine. Peppery red berry fruit and a supple smooth texture. Medium to almost full-bodied. A lovely, balanced example of the Appassimento style that concentrates flavours but doesn't make the wine heavy. Very savoury. This robust Italian red wine takes its name -- Arele -- from the wooden trays that were traditionally used to dry the grapes, or a portion of them, to make Appassimento wine. The 2014 vintage has intense dark red fruit and polished tannins. Pair with grilled meats.

Food pairings: cheese pizza, veal, beef, tagliatelle alla Bolognese (pasta), chicken herb-rubbed roast.

Reviews and Ratings

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Rustic! Dried sage and berry notes are prominent. The palate is dry with chalky/dusty tannic mouthfeel, high acid, and concentrated cherry and red plum flavours. The finish is long and spicy with a dominate dried sage/oregano note. Definitely, pair with pasta primavera and meatballs. Tasted May 2017 by @sommsosa | bespoketastings.ca
From a world renown producer, Tommasi, Arele Parziale Appassimento (2015) is a red wine blend of 70% Corvina with 10% each of Rondinella, Oseleta and Merlot. Because of the wine style the ripe red fruit with a spicy peppery finish is smooth and liquid cherry on the palate. "Arele" is for the wooden trays that were traditionally used to dry the grapes in making Appassimento-style wine. - Community Wine Reviews
