Lots of attractive toasty oak and fleshy blackberry on the nose of this full-bodied South African red wine, which also delivers on the palate. This juicy, full-bodied red wonder is pretty darn incredible for the price. Pair it with roast beef, or umm, braised wolf.

Reviews and Ratings

Joseph rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

I think this wine is getting better with age. Still a bit young and rough at the beginning but a balance of Oak and Viognier are adding wonderful complexity. Should be wonderful wine for the price in 2-3 years of cellaring. Joe Kerwin
Claude Mercier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Very nice and smooth
Community Reviewer reviewed this wine as follows:

The high percentage of Syrah in the blend leads to the spicy, aromatic nose of The Wolftrap, supported by perfume from the Viognier. The Cinsault offers juicy fruit on the palate and the Mourvedre adds structure and weight.

This robust South African red wine is a blend of Syrah 66%, Mourvèdre 32% and Viognier 2%. It has a spicy character having been aged in French oak barrels. The name of the wine is a tribute to early pioneers who settled in the Cape and who built a wolf trap at Boekenhoutskloof. No wolf has ever been caught (or seen) in the valley.
