Holy alcohol Batman: 15.2%! However, this robust, layered Californian red wine does have the fruit, structure and concentration to handle it. You just need to be ready for a full-on palate whack with this wine. Pair with brontosaurus burgers, or whatever they feed prisoners in the isolation unit.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

ich and concentrated. Super full bodied, this is an intense wine that commands high intensity food. A unique blend from Oakville, California. Dark chocolate, mocha, raspberry, kirsch, pepper, and baking spice on the palate. Lovely wine! Highly recommended. Tasted June 2015. 92 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Caution: Big, Bold and Takes No Prisoners. A whopping 15.2% alcohol and flavour explosion. Deep ruby and inky, full-bodied, smooth, delicious chocolate and baking spices, black fruit, dried fruit, pepper, licorice and blackcurrant leaf. This is a heady wine - as in it goes right to your head - needs heavy weight meat. Grilled steak or hamburger; Prime Rib roast rubbed in coffee. Great gift wine.
Tasted: June 2015
This is the magnum size format of this wine, equivalent to two regular 750 ml bottles. The 2013 vintage of the Californian Proprietary Red Blend The Prisoner is a red wine blend of 44% Zinfandel, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Petite Sirah grapes, with small amounts of Syrah, Grenache and Charbono. - Community Wine Reviews
