Black and brooding: this full-bodied Californian red wine is a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes from vines planted at 2,000 feet above sea level in the winery's estate vineyards of volcanic rock and steep slopes on Mount Vedeer. A terrific, juicy Californian red with savoury with black fruit and smoke. Pair with a rare steak.

Food pairings: grilled meats, meat lover's pizza, meaty stews.

Reviews and Ratings

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Aromas of dark berries, black plums, chocolate, cedar, underwood and violet. On the palate, it has invigorating acidity levels and the tannins are fairly structured. In terms of flavours, we have dark berries and sweet spice, with a long velvety cocoa finish. Overall, a pleasant wine!

Tasted November 2017
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Ruby coloured, deep, inky and opaque with dark staining tears. A rich bouquet featuring dried fruit, dark chocolate, dark skinned plum, prune, menthol and tobacco. Flavours are vibrant; dark fruit is echoed with, black cherry, deep blackberry, cocoa and jalapeño pepper heat. Medium plus acidity and tannins with a full body and a long finish with fruit and bell pepper persistence. Velvety and well rounded. Excellent QPR. Pair with bacon wrapped filet mignon, pork shoulder and prime rib. 91 points - November 2017
