Winemakers Len and Marisa Crispino use the traditional Valpolicella method of appassimento which involves drying grapes before pressing to concentrate flavour and body, along with alcohol. They bought land in Niagara in 2000. 20% of the Pinot for this wine was dried for the final blend, which then spent 20 months in French oak. Cherry liqueur, rich plum and baking spice flavours on this PN. Good structure and ripe tannins, pair it with a roast leg of lamb.

Pinot Noir food pairings: grilled burgers, mushroom and onion risotto, roast chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Sharon Lécuyer rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Lovely nose of stewed plums, berries and cherries. Lots of flavours going on here including anise, cedar, and well balanced tannins here.

If you're not normally a person that likes pinot noir, I encourage you to give this one a try!

This would pair well with ribs or stew. Or try with a warm desserts that bring in some of the fruit and spice flavours like mixed berry pie or crisp!

Tasted September 18, 2018
Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Aromas of prune, eucalyptus, and dried herbs transform to a zippy cherry finish.
Tasted Sept 2018.
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Pale garnet colour with brick hues, aromas are active with dried fruit - prunes, plums, and hints of figs. Smoke, and earthy forest. Flavours reveal stewed strawberry, berry pie, and cherry chutney. Lots of spices also featured of hickory and thyme. Elements of the appasimento really show, high acidity, medium silky tannins and body. Pair with trail mix, dried fruits and beef ribs. 87 points - tasted September 2018

It's not like other Niagara Pinot Noirs it is a bolder, riper version that gets its complexity from the appassimento method of winemaking that is this winery's signature. Look for liquid cherry flavours, ripe, rich plum and baking spice flavours on this PN. Good structure and ripe tannins, pair it with a roast leg of lamb. - Community Wine Reviews
