Juicy and full-bodied with very supple and smooth and juicy. Lots of fleshy blackberry aromas and flavours. Great value, quality and taste for the price. Pair with pork tenderloin.

Carignan food pairings: stuffed beef braciole, venison stew, sharp aged cheddar.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A dark garnet red old-vine dry wine from France's Cotes Catalanes at the foothills of the Pyrenees. Herbal ripe dark berries on the nose with lots of ripe dark berries, lavender, licorice, black olives and sage on the palate. Smooth and well-balanced, full-bodied with a long herbal berry finish. Delicious with charcuterie, black olives, Ratatouille and Provencal fare.
Produced by Domaine Lafage, Vignobles D'altitude from Vieilles Vignes (old vines), this southern French wine is made from 100% Carignan grapes. The soils are black schist and granite at the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Agly Valley 20 kilometres from the village of Maury. This blend is a joint project between the winery and the importer Eric Solomon. The 2013 vintage of the Tessellae Vieilles Vignes is made from Carignan grapes that grow on 70-year-old vines. - Community Wine Reviews
