Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Rich and fresh with blackberry, spiced plum, mint and sage aromas on the nose; dry, full-bodied and intense on the palate with dark berries galore, dark cherry, plum, cedar brush spice, mint, savoury shitake mushrooms, finishing long and spicy with a mineral edge. A beautifully balanced Merlot showing quality ripe fruit with acidity in check. Tannins are rich, fine, and pleasantly grippy. The 2019 Merlot can easily cellar to 2023 – it will continue to evolve and only get better, but if pouring tonight, decant it for one hour prior to pairing this vegan-friendly Merlot with mushroom or gourmet burgers from the grill. Tasted May 2021.

Summerhill Winery’s 2019 Merlot is produced from organically and biodynamically grown grapes from Esther Vineyard (Kaleden, BC) and Sehkon Family Vineyard (Osoyoos, BC) with each portion fermented separately and naturally in 10,000 litre oak foudres. The wine was aged for over one year in neutral oak barrels and finished in the winery’s precision Pyramid Cellar.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
