Reviews and Ratings

Malcolm Lamont - WSET Adv, CSW rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This variety is typically used in 2-3 % of a blend in Bordeaux.

Seeing Stratus' varietal offering is great! And powerful.

Graphite (picture a darker, mineral note), violet, mineral, dark cherry, and dried leaf!
Yummy, powerful, and age-worthy, with high ripe tannins.

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This is an interesting Petit Verdot (single varietal red wine) from Stratus typically used in classic Bordeaux blends to add texture (tannins) and floral notes. It is the last varietal to be harvested and, in recent years, it has been known to ripen much later that usual. The catch here though is that in order to utilised it's desirable characters (ripe tannins, texture and aromatics) it needs to cross the threshold into the winery in due time.

Even though it's not trending high amongst Old World producers these days, Petit Verdot has been doing very well in the New World. Longer growing seasons, favourable soils types and, so far, good luck with the appropriate microclimates have allowed for amazing expressions of Petit Verdot - like Stratus!

Stratus' Petit Verdot 2012 vintage is showing classic floral, black fruit and leathery aromas, while cassis and spice dominate the palate. This expression is full-bodied, young integrated tannins, balanced acidity and a long finish. Overall, a stunning expression of single varietal Petit Verdot.
